Engineering Design Center (EDC) was created under an agreement between General Electric and the Institute of Aviation. Our engineers work in following areas: aircraft jet engines, gas and steam turbines, electric motors and generators, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, as well as industrial installations including pipelines, and automatics. EDC employs over 1800 engineers and is the largest engineering center in the Central Europe.

Role Summary / Purpose

This opening is in Aviation Digital, Data & Analytics team on an R&D project. In this job, you will develop/implement new navigation algorithms for autonomous vehicles as well as work with vast amounts of vision and other sensor data. Your goal will be to create models in 3 areas: prediction, detection/alerting and optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Implement new solutions to path finding and obstacle detection problems
  • Prepare rapid prototypes to prove new concepts
  • Evaluate current solutions, compare with alternatives, compose appropriate metrics
  • Perform large scale simulations of the proposed algorithms
  • Spread knowledge and understanding of new solutions within the team and communicate externally

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Relevant university degree (preferred at least Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Operational Research, Robotics, Mechatronics, Mathematics, Physics or related field)
  • Significant experience working as Data Scientist or Software Engineer
  • Strong programming skills, especially in C++, Python, and C#
  • Strong quantitative skills (understanding of modeling, statistics, optimization techniques)
  • Familiarity in dealing with large time series data sets (Big Data)
  • Experience with rapid prototyping involving hardware and sensor fusion will be a plus
  • Interest in AI, Deep Learning, machine and statistical learning
  • A business acumen and willingness to explore the wide context of each task
  • Great communication skills, experience working in a cross-functional, agile team (Github, Kanban)
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a highly multi-tasked environment
  • Fluent English skills both verbal and written
